This is one of the oldest churches in the city built probably around the 6th and 7th centuries. An inscription here states that St. Anne was restored here during the joint reigns of Basil I, Leo VI and Alexander during the 9th century.
It is very sad to know that the church has been completely closed down now and the only remnant to be found is the relief structure on the outer walls. It is a fine example of the city’s Byzantine past and the interiors of the church is known to have once been richly decorated with frescoes.
