The Elmer's Fountain in Shoshone County is nestled safely amid the pristine plantations of North Idaho and is a popular attraction on a long drive around countryside owing to the legend of it being the “fountain of youth”. Hiking enthusiasts will love to take a descending walk from the Lookout Pass to reach Panhandle that is blessed with natural groves, mountain peaks and lakefront. Within the trees lies a group of fountains like a hidden treasure, which were handcrafted by a local miner named Elmer Almquist in remembrance of his old friends. The water of the Gold Creek snow runoff oozes from the old mining salvage throughout the year. During winter the whole area is surrounded by thick snow, but the water keeps running, creating unique ice sculptures!

Elmer's Fountain Reviews & Ratings
I have been stopping here on my way from Seattle to Missoula every year for about 20 years. I love this little "wide spot in the road". Very relaxing and a great place for a picnic and a walk. Last time I was here there was poop and toilet paper all over....please people, it's not a rest stop, it's a park like setting with no toilets.
