Coba Pyramid, Tulum Reviews

  • Pretty amazing place. Contrary to some comments and reviews we read in the days leading up to our visit, we were able to climb the Pyramid when we visited today 1/2/18. It was actually much smaller than imagined. We probably climbed to the top in 4/5 minutes. We recommend renting bikes and arriving before 9 if possible. We also enjoyed some birding while traveling the paths. :). A pleasant half day excursion from Tulum.

  • Go in the early morning when no one else is around. The canopy may be misty but that's better than baking in the mid-day sun. Rent a bike. It will help a lot with appreciation of the sites instead of the jungle. The entire site is *huge*. The guide told us that they've only excavated 5% of available buildings. Climbing the pyramid is a bit scary but the view is amazing. The steps are uneven and slick in a few places. I will wouldn't climb if it has rained. If clambering up a steep hill makes you uncomfortable, then you'll likely not like the pyramid. Also, it's an hour to the nearest hospital, should something go wrong.

  • Coba is the last Mayan Pyramid allowed to be climbed in the Riviera Maya. The grounds are gorgeous with their jungle trees and walking paths. We utilized the bikes to make the trek easier to the foot of the pyramid. The views are breathtaking at the top.

  • One of the last Mayan sites where you are allowed to climb the main pyramid. I have heard that they will no longer allow it after 1/1/2018 so do some research if you are counting on climbing the pyramid

  • Bike rental is a must, and the pyramid is awesome. Wait until inside before renting the bike though.
