Located next to the Savanna River Entrance, the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum is a popular landmark in the Tybee Island. The lighthouse is one of the seven colonial era lighthouse towers in Georgia. The beacon of the tower still has a functioning navigational aid and uses its original lens. The lighthouse was built in 1822. The Tybee Island Light Station and Museum is maintained by Tybee Island Historical Society.

  • IMPORTANT: you don't have to climb the lighthouse, there are several buildings to see here at ground level. This place is just fine for younger children. Well cared for, friendly staff. It is a bit of a climb to the top of the lighthouse but the ocean breeze is a wonderfull thing on a hot day. Views from the catwalk are spectacular.

  • We stopped to see the Tybee Lighthouse in the early morning. This was an awesome experience and well worth the ride from Savannah. Great views and even better photo opportunities. Plenty of parking near by and access to the beach as well! If you don’t stop here when in the area, you’re making a big mistake! If you are able to, be sure to take the hike up to the top, a total of 178 steps. Spectacular 360 view! Would definitely come back again.

  • Had a great experience at the light house. I have never been inside a light house. There is a fee to go up the light house. Spiral stairs . They send only few people at a time as the structure is so old. The view from top is spectacular.

  • Beautiful landscapes and views! Many stairs to the top, but if you are physically able, I HIGHLY recommend it. Well worth it. Also, the staff is extremely helpful and kind. This is a diversion well worth the trip!

  • I always love going to tybee island. It's so nice. The beach is a lot of fun as well, but there do seem to be a huge amount of jelly fish. So use caution when getting in the water.
