The Sunderland museum and winter gardens have preserved a part of the history of Sunderland. Suring 1800s, a very popular animal show was hosted here with the star attraction of Wallace, the lion. The show was a huge hit. After the lion died, its body was preserved and is kept in this museum. Wallace is still a very popular attraction here. Other interesting exhibits include the very first car from Nissan, creations pertaining to shipbuilding, glass and pottery industry and more. Their art gallery houses a large collection of LS Lowry. The Winter Gardens, opened a few years ago, is home to over 2000 species of tropical plants housed in greenhouse like conditions.
