Ahar Museum - Review

About Three kilometers away from Udaipur is the city of Ahar where this museum is located. This archeological museum holds a lot of ancient artifacts that represent the cultural rich ness of India’s history.

The Museum was created to display objects found in an excavation that was carried out in the area.

It is possible that some of the object back here date back to the 10th century while some are even older. Objects made of iron, earthen pots and several other trinkets have been put up as exhibits.

It isn’t just the museum that is worth seeing though. The city of Ahar has several chattris and arches dedicated to different kings that make it a huge tourist attraction. These tiny monuments are also important to the people as they honor these great rulers of the past. In fact, a lot of people visit this cite not to admire the beautiful architecture but as homage to the history that is represented by them. As it is a very short distance from Udaipur, it is certainly worth the day trip.

It is not only famous for its archaeological museum which has now become a recent hot topic amongst the circle of archaeologists, but has gained popularity because of the beautiful cenotaphs that are found here. One of the seven most royal cenotaphs found in Rajasthan, this spot is a hot bed for archaeological activity

Ahar Museum, Udaipur Reviews

  • The place seems to be shut for renovations. The only "board" you see is: No photography and don't climb with shoes. There is some information outside, but only written in Hindi. Additionally, you can pay the caretaker for clicked pictures. The entrance is not marked. Ask the people around for help. I recommend a visit if you are into photography.

  • The museum was closed for renovation but the cenotaphs site was beautiful. Hardly anybody there and it is quiet and peaceful.

  • Once upon a time a greatest civilization lived here. Some of the brightest minds of the planet buried down under here. And now, after 4000 years everyone here in this city forgotten about them. Although Udaipur had a vast history, but Ahar Civilization is something we can really feel proud about. Nobody care about its preservation, or make it more organized like any other tourist place in the city. Maybe someday someone will look after it, but that "someday" should come soon.

  • It's a beautiful and recommended place for those who are in search of heritage , history and primitive architecture of this region!

  • The Ahar Cenotaphs are a group of cenotaphslocated in Ahar, Rajasthan, about 2 km east of Udaipur, in Rajasthan, India. The site contains more than 250 cenotaphs of the maharajas of Mewar that were built over approximately 350 years. There are 19 chhatris that commemorate the 19 maharajas who were cremated here...
