About City Palace And City Palace Government Museum , Udaipur

The city palace is a beautiful construction from the era of the royals in Rajasthan. Sitting amongst the several palaces that have been built around Lake Pichola, this one is a gorgeous sight to see.

This palace might be one of the largest of its kind with intricately carved archways and delicate architecture. The influence of both Mughal as well as Rajasthani styles is quite apparent. It was built by the rulers of the Mewar kingdom. The Badi Mahal is especially stunning. Not only is the architecture quite beautiful, it also holds a pond of sorts within it. The Mor chowk has pretty stained glass work done in peacock motifs. The City palace is certainly a treat for the eyes. It is a surreal experience to walk the corridors and get an idea of what majesty the Rajasthani royals lived in.

If you have the time, you can also view all the surrounding palaces that are built in similar styles but with different elements. You could easily spend an entire day exploring this beautiful area. Be sure to try and find out more about the many tales and stories associated with the royals from locals or guides. There are a few ghost stories too.

City Palace Government Museum is basically a large chunk of the main city palace that has been the pride of Udaipur for centuries now. The part that is open and has been converted into the City Palace Museum is full of beautiful rooms, adorned with mirrors and royal tiles that will take you back into history in no time. This palace was built after Amar Singh I was born. It took almost 400 years to be completed and the intricate details will show you why.

City Palace And City Palace Government Museum , Udaipur Reviews

  • Another wonderful piece of architecture. What a work have been done here. 1 can spend at least 2 hr here. Well maintained place and worth of every minute you spend inside. Wonderful collection of things. Do visit the government museum inside. It has also some good collection of items. Stunning glass works inside too.

  • City Palace is a mind blowing awesome location filled with heritage, traditions, great antic collections, beautiful paintings, rare musical instruments, rare exhibits of ancient Gods, silver and gold ornament displays and many more. This Palace is full of amusements, it takes a whole day to cover the entire premises. The view from the top of Palace is worth watching and the lake which surrounds the Palace has a boat riding facility, it gives a golden opportunity to feel the warmth and luxury of the Kings and Queens had in their times!

  • It has many great spots to acknowledge but, it doesn't have anything special to be proud of. It has all the things that you find local fort around you but atmosphere all around is very soothing. They are not many spots to have snack as they are charging a great fee. Overall it's been a okay experience from me. But you can get far better experience at Amer fort (Jaipur).

  • One of the biggest palace in India. Must visit place for family and friends. It's very big palace, so it will take minimum 2 hours time. If you want to chill and take lot of photographs, then it will take more time 😊 Better to go in afternoon after your lunch. The entry ticket is Rs 330 per adult, so ensure you have 3 hours time to explore well and utilise to the fullest 😀 Well, it's really amazing to do photography and at the same time the history of this palace is interesting, so ensure you get the official guide assigned to your group. They will take min of Rs 300/- Overall, I just loved this place and enjoyed it thoroughly !!

  • Just one word, Super!! Great representation of Indian history. Enjoyed a lot with family. Parking is a bit problem here, so if you are planning to visit with car, keep in mind that you may have to park your car far away and use local transportation. I suggest book you hotel a bit away from main city, so you don’t have to worry about your car’s parking and than you can use local transport to visit different places.
