About Lake Pichola, Udaipur

Whether it is Lake Pichola’s natural beauty that has inspired the splendidness of the palaces surroundings or if it is the palaces that enhance it is a question worth pondering about. Well, either way it doesn’t change the fact that this whole place is simply stunning. Created in 1362 AD, Lake Pichola is a fresh river water lake which was named after the nearby Picholi village. Pichola lake is infact one of the reasons why Udaipur is known as the city of lakes adorning India. Take a boat ride on it and you will actually traverse through the vignettes that dot the bewitching landscape of Udaipur. Pichola Lake’s stunning beauty infact tempted Rudyard Kipling to mention it in his Letters of Marque (1899), "If the Venetian owned the Pichola Lake, he might say with justice, "see it and die".

The lake is a real treat due to the amazing buildings that dot its bank. The four islands within the lake house heritage hotels and temples. The City Palace, the Jag Niwas (which has been turned into a Hotel) and the Gangaur Festival which is celebrated on its banks is just one of the many things that make tourists flock towards this serene spot.

Constructed and Used to aid irrigation for the surrounding areas, the lake had recently become dangerously polluted but great effort has been taken to restore it to its old self. A boat ride across the lake as you admire the many relics of an era gone by is sure to please any tourist.

  • Great ambience. . Very Good Service. . Good food .. and great view of Lake Pichola from your room.. what else do you need when you are in Udaipur.. Thank you Lake Pichola Hotel ..

  • Amazing view from lake facing room. One of best property to stay in Udaipur if you are looking for awesome views of lake Pichola. Hotel also serves good food

  • I think the restaurant is over hyped because it is located on the pichola lake. View of the city is amazing but the service in restaurant is very bad. The staff is impolite and not supportive. Note: Always do a reservation before visiting else the restaurant staff will screw your evening and can make you sit at the bar with no food only drinks.

  • Went for Dinner at Upre, the food was good but the service was not as good. We had to request for our server many times, maybe he was new or something but he was completely off. I mean if you give me the bill, you should come to the tallble in a minute to collect the payment but this guy went away and we had to call him after 10 mins. Some issue switch that guy I guess. The view is good and overall ambience was also quite nice but I would choose Ambrai. Nothing to complaint about food although when I compared the fire&Ice from this place with the one from Udaivillas, there was a huge difference. The soft skills at that place are off the charts. Which brings me to conclusion that Upre has to up it's game with soft skills otherwise it has no furure as Ambrai clearly has better location and with food not really playing a big role in decision making for Dinner nowadays, I guess soft skills is only thing left.

  • We went to Upres, 1559 in this hotel and boy, was it beautiful! Right on the banks of lake pichola overlooking the city palace, the restaurant is in a very beautiful location. The interiors of the hotel looked really good as well. I would suggest people to take a room here.
