Known to be the best and one of the most aptly located observatories, Udaipur Solar Observatory is one of the most coveted aeronautical observatories in the country. The Udaipur Solar Observatory is situated on an island in the middle of the Lake Fatehsagar. The sky conditions at Udaipur are quite favourable for solar observations. The large water body surrounding the telescopes decreases the amount of heating of the surface layers. This decreases the turbulence in the air mass and thereby improves the image quality and seeing. Situated right between the Fateh Sagar Lake, this observatory has telescopes and equipment with a highly efficient team that make a great impact on the technology of our country.

  • Multi Application Solar Telescope (MAST), a telescope for the detailed study of the Solar activity including its magnetic field, has recently been operationalised at the Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO) of Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), an autonomous unit of the Department of Space.   MAST is an off-axis Gregorian-Coude telescope with a 50 cm aperture. PRL is a premier research institute engaged in basic research in the areas of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Solar Physics, Planetary Science and Exploration, Space and Atmospheric Sciences, Geosciences and Theoretical Physics.

  • The Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO) is in Udaipur, Rajasthan in India on an island in the Fateh Sagar Lake.[1] The sky conditions at Udaipur are quite favourable for solar observations. Since the observatory is situated amidst a large mass of water, air turbulence which occurs due to ground heating by sun's rays is decreased. This improves the image quality and accuracy (average between 1-2 arc seconds).

  • It is one of the oldest solar observatory of India. There is restricted entry in observatory. The observatory made here because of pollution free environment .The sky here generally cloud free and only cloudy in Monsoon session and for a little. Secondly Udaipur city is having elevation of 500 meter by sea level . This usually comes in limelight whenever solar eclipse occurs in Rajasthan.

  • One can go there only through boat. Blackie it is situated in the middle of the lake not exactly in the middle but it is in accessible without boat or steamer.

  • Udaipur Solar Observatiry is situated amidst the Fateh Sagar Lakeis considered as the best Solar Observatory of Asia. It is a unit of Physical Research Labrotory, a unit of Department of Space, Government of India.
