Built in the late 19th century on the order of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, the Nyay Mandir was originally built as a vegetable market. The architect of the building- Robert Chisholm built the structure in classic Byzantine design with beautiful Moorish elements. After its construction was complete, the grandeur of the Nyay Mandir made the King change his mind about its use and he deemed it as a town hall instead. Before India’s independence, the buildings served as the Supreme court. Currently, the place is used as a district courthouse.

Walk in to find the foundation stone that bears a dedication to Maharani Chimnabai after whom the market was named. Spread over 4 acres, this building has seen many important historical events including the last speech of Baroda’s final ruler Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad who addressed his kingdom from the balcony of the Nyay Mandir.

Highlights of the buildings include:

• The central hall with prominent Moorish influence and Italian marble tile work. The statue of Maharani Chimnabai takes the center stage here.
• The external architecture with a beautiful entrance gate that has two minars on its either side

Take a walk around the place to see its stunning design and travel back in time as you walk in to see the central hall and admire the intricate artwork and technique that can be seen on almost every inch of the regal structure.
