Sayaji Baugh was built by Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III in 1879 and was dedicated to the people of Vadodara. Located close to the Vishwamitri river, the park covers an area of around 45 hectares and is home to more than 98 species of plants and trees. You can access the park through any of three gates – two of them being the gates near Rana Pratap square and the Kala Ghoda Chowk. The Baugh has a zoo, a planetarium, two museums, and a flower clock. A mini toy train takes you around the park and is a favourite with children.

In a way, the park offers more than just a recreational place. The Baroda museum and Picture gallery dates back to 1894 and resembles the famous Victoria & Albert Museum in London. You can find a vast collection of sculptures, art, and ethnographic items here while the Picture gallery has an enviable collection of the works of J. M. W. Turner and John Constable along with rare Mughal miniature paintings, an Egyptian mummy, a gallery of Tibetan Art, an Akota bronze at the that dates back to the 5th century and a full skeleton of blue whale.

If astronomy is your weakness, the Sardar Patel Planetarium tickles your curious brain with a short but immersive show in Gujarati, English, and Hindi. The Zoo and Aquarium is home to 1103 animal belonging to 167 species of animals that include Asiatic Lions, Deer, and Tigers. The Floral clock is one of its kind and has an underground machine. The clock with its facebeing20 feet in diameter is a landmark in the Baugh. The entire premise is covered in well-maintained trees and grass with neat walkways that help you explore all that the park offers.
