The Tentalav is located around 45 kilometres from Vadodara and forms the heart of the Tentalav village that is a small settlement of around 3000 people. The Tentalav pond is an artificially made structure with a boundary made from stepped platforms. The pond was one of the features that was built by Hiradhar Shilpi who named it after the love of his life “Taini”. It is believed that Shilpi stole stones from the Dabhoi Fort to build this pond. After the Queen of the fort got to know about the theft, she and the king sentence Hiradhar Shilpi to death.
Today, the structure lies quiet understated without many tourists knowing about its historic relevance and its impeccable construction. Its octagonal shape is what makes it unique and even though quiet sparsely vegetated, the area is loved for its rustic yet beautiful views. The entire pond is covered with Lotus plants and is an ideal photography location. A visit to the nearby temple completes a day trip to the village.
