Fort St Elmo, Valletta Reviews
Took my son here it was very interesting for both of us. A stunning place. Lots of history and very interesting architecture. It's amazing to see what this little island has been through.
Definitely worth a visit. It was quite expansive and shared a lot of history. I didn't realize how violent Malta's past was and this visit helped me better understand its involvement and why they've needed to protect their island. It also helps explain even something like language development over time given previous rulers. Depending on when you go, make sure you bring water, sunglasses, and a hat - not a lot of shade.
I learned the history of Malta and its strategic position in war time. The museum is spread out and there is lots of walking and artifacts and information. I needed a toilette and the ticket woman said right inside the door. Well it was a long walk to the fort and then in the second building. The signage was poor. The elevators were broken for handicapped. It was a hot day and I expected air conditioning but there is none.
The history of Malta through the ages and the ticket is valid for a month. Very well displayed and worth a couple of hours. Good value and great views over the Grand Harbour
An impressive old fortress, especially if you know the history behind it. There is a war museum which displays items from different time periods when the fortress was used or besieged. Like the ottoman empire or WW2.
