Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve Reviews & Ratings
Beautiful park with a low - moderately strenuous 2.5 mile loop hike, where you will see many species of trees, plants, and flowers!
Beautiful trails. The rhododendrons bloom from around mid-April to early June. Huckleberries are ripe in late summer and grow right along the trails. If you start your hike at the parking lot, I recommend going up the Chinese Gulch trail and down Phillip's Gulch trail. Chinese Gulch has a consistent gentle uphill slope in that direction. Phillip's Gulch trail has a steep bit at the end, but it's fairly short, and the rest of the trail is more gradually sloped.
I love the deep foliage, rich in color. Great camera angles in the deep woods. Seeing the sun rays squeezing through the tall trees gives me the thought of, if a tree falls in the woods and nobody's there will it make a sound?
Lots of overgrown bushes, unclear trails and many spiders in the off season.
Very primitive roads and bad signage hard to get too. And leaves you in the Back of Beyond.
