Located only 12 kilometres outside Valparai, the Anaimalai Hills are a popular tourist attraction. Also called the Elephant Mountains, this mountain range in the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu is home to many indigenous animals and birds. The highest peak in this mountain range is the Anamudi Peak at 8,842 feet. The lower slopes of these hills have coffee and tea plantations along with teak, rosewood, sandalwood, and sago palms. The Anaimalai Hills are a popular hiking and trekking destination. Extra caution must be taken if you are planning on visiting Anaimalai Hills during the monsoon months.
