  • We stayed at the Best Western Sands for two nights prior to our Ricky Mountaineer tour. The location was great. Across the road from the beach and access to Stanley Park. Many great restaurants in the neighborhood. The Cactus Club Cafe by the beach was excellent. Staff at the hotel were professional, efficient and helpful. Kameron at the Front Desk was great. Older property but has everything you need close by. I mistakenly gave a one star instead of five star rating. This is a great place to stay.

  • We've been spending the New Year's holiday at the Sands for several years. It's a great place: excellent lounge/restaurant and desk staff. Very pleasant and professional. It has become our "home away from home". I really don't understand the negative reviews here. We travel quite a lot; this is one of our very favorite spots. Thanks for making our stay so great!

  • We stayed here after a cruise. It was a short and inexpensive ride ($10 CAD) from the ship to the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They stored our luggage before and after our stay, gave us a map and some tips. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bed was great! The internet was unavailable for a time in the evening. The location was the best. Very close to lots of dining, bike rental and bus stop across the street. The beach is at the end of the road. We would book this again.

  • This hotel is in desperate need of renovation and repair. I see that one of the reasons that the hotel gives for not having done any renovations is that they need to wait until after peak season to renovate...however, it is clearly so outdated that many, many seasons must have gone by without upkeep. One of the elevators was broken, and it did not seem to be in the process of repair. The remaining elevator was extremely slow, would stop 2-3 inches above or below the floor, and would stop frequently at random floors (often at each floor) without being called. The carpet and upholstery in our room was old and stained, the room had a musty smell, and the water in the shower fluctuated significantly during the course of a 10-minute shower. The hairdryer provided would overheat and shut itself off after 30-60 seconds on the "high" setting, and it took a day and a half to resolve this. The area didn't feel very safe at night, and there didn't seem to be any hotel security. The attached parking area was very limited with very small parking spots, and the auxiliary upper level parking lot was not accessible by elevator or 2nd floor entry to the building, so the only alternative to the exterior stairs was to walk through the alley, which did not feel safe at night and marginally safe in the daytime (we were greeted by an individual who emerged from a dumpster). Some of the staff were very helpful and friendly, despite having to deal with the frustrated customers. Others were quite unprofessional, loudly complaining at the front desk about other customers. Overall, this hotel seems to be relying on its proximity to the beach to draw in customers as opposed to providing them a clean, comfortable, and safe place to stay once they are there.

  • I attended this Best Western Plus Sands Hotel location as part of a conference put together by a local Chapter. Their choice of facility exceeded the expectations of every participant I spoke to. The location is extremely well placed, as it provided easy walking access to many interesting sites within the West End. The hotel was only short walk away from enjoying the relaxing settings within Stanley Park, and the lively beaches in the vicinity. The overall hotel amenities and rooms, their friendly and helpful staff, along the cleanliness of the hotel were excellent. Definitely recommend this Best Western Plus Sands Hotel location for anyone wanting to enjoy the local area while travelling to or through the Vancouver.
