Very close to the Vannes Aquarium is the home of some other very beautiful creatures. The Butterfly Garden is a tropical greenhouse that breeds butterflies in their own habitat. Fresh Pupae are imported every week from French Guiana, Philippines and Madagascar. Due to hunting, urban development and the resulting destruction of their habitat, many species of butterflies are disappearing. This garden doubles up both, as a tourist attraction and a conservatory. As you walk through this made-up tropical forest ambience, when you look up you will see several butterflies of unimaginable colours, playing, flying, resting and mating. The sight is overwhelming. • A guided tour to the Hatchery Unit, where one can observe a Chrysalis transforming into a butterfly.
