Ponnumthuruthu Island, Varkala Reviews - Write a Review
Nothing here actually. Picnic spot. You need to go via boat and the view on the backwaters is breathtaking. A small island with small temple. Do go once you visit varkala.
The boatmen try to fleece you here. Though the island is calm and serene there is not much to see. Initially when we asked the man who arranges for the boat, he said that it was a nice place and we were charged 1200 for 4 people. And when we mentioned to the boatman that there was nothing on the island, he quipped "I never said there was anything there". There are better places to see in varkala and this sure is not one of them.
Nothing to explore more. But a calm place to enjoy the nature and the ambience of a temple. Dont go by private motor boats which will cost you around 350 per person. Go by boat (arranged by temple) which is free during worshiping times.
A very calm and quiet place. Except for the temple there is nothing much to see. But sitting on the banks of the river in a silent, serene and isolated place felt really good. The only thing to be careful is how to reach the place. During the temple timings, there is a boat service provided by the temple which is free of cost too. Otherwise locals will charge you very much. I had to pay 700 for 2 of us.
This is a great place to visit. We didn't even bother booking an official tour. Just head over on a scooter and you should be able to find someone who can sail you to the island. Not much to see there, but it's all about the boat trip really.
