Covering 57 acres, the gardens are spread over most of the Vatican Hill. It’s said to have earth brought over from Golgotha, to symbolically unite the blood of Christ with the blood of the thousands of early Christian martyrs. Medieval fortifications, buildings and monuments from the 800s to today are set among flowers, orchards, lawns and forest.

There are a number of beautiful fountains and even an olive tree, donated by the Israeli government. Unlike the other attractions in the Vatican, the tour MUST be guided, and combined with a more general tour of the Vatican, and conducted by an official tour guide.

  • Gardens are stunning. It was such a beautiful day as well one I will treasure. And after that I done the Vatican. Rome is full of history I loved it and will go back and visit

  • Beautiful place! Loved the summer residence they showed us in the end. Worth it for the exclusivity factor. However, not as good as the Vatican museums if you want to weigh them against each other.

  • Beautiful gardens with nice views to St.Peter basilica. Peaceful place. The downside is you don't have much chance to relax and enjoy on a bench, you basically spend 2 hours on foot.

  • Pretty much just look at the place as there's so much to see inside. Perfect little gardens with lush green everywhere...

  • The gardens are so beautiful and well taken care of. The Vatican museums are always crazy busy and when you get to the gardens it feels so good. Do try to spare time to see the amazing gardens at the end and enjoy the views. Specially in summer time when it is so warm, the gardens are a great place to pause after the hectic Vatican visit
