About Vatican Gardens, Vatican City
Covering 57 acres, the gardens are spread over most of the Vatican Hill. It’s said to have earth brought over from Golgotha, to symbolically unite the blood of Christ with the blood of the thousands of early Christian martyrs. Medieval fortifications, buildings and monuments from the 800s to today are set among flowers, orchards, lawns and forest.
There are a number of beautiful fountains and even an olive tree, donated by the Israeli government. Unlike the other attractions in the Vatican, the tour MUST be guided, and combined with a more general tour of the Vatican, and conducted by an official tour guide.

Vatican Gardens, Vatican City Reviews
Quite professional design and layout. I appreciate the efforts to keep the historical and cultural themes. However some of the garden seemed straight out of the 60s and out of place. much of the garden suffered from deferred maintenance. overall it is a very nice respite from the busy city next door
You can only see the Vatican Gardens via a tour guide. It's 2 hours long but worth every step and every minute. If you get a good guide like we did every bit of the gardens is simply awesome. Do this tour in the morning otherwise the afternoon sun can be too much. It's a must if you are visiting Rome.
We visited the gardens via the official tour. It seems like it isn't favored over the museum tours which was great for us since out group ended up with only 15 people. We had a wonderful guide named Chiari who was so into what she did. I so recommend this tour because the gardens are truly stunning. It's peaceful to walk through and just see beautiful fountains, trees and flowers. You also get to see the Pope's private heli-pad 😋. The tour is two hours and includes entrance to the museum and Sistine.
The best part of Vatican. Take a guided tour (actually, there's no other ways to get here if you are not a resident of Vatican), you'll know many interesting details about the history and life of this most well known enclave in the world. The garden your also lets you to skip the line to the Vatican museum.
The garden tour of the Vatican was amazing! It's also a great deal since booking a tour online ALSO gets you free SKIP the line admission to the Vatican museums. Walking past a couple kms of people in line to present your tour pass is very satisfying. You do not need an additional ticket to get into the Vatican museums (we accidentally bought separate tickets for that). But seriously, the garden tour is amazing. It's around a 2 hour stroll around the gardens with amazing photo opportunities and a knowledgeable guide. We liked it so much more than the museums themselves (far too crowded to enjoy).
