About Vaxholm Fortress, Vaxholm

Vaxholm Fortress (Swedish: Vaxholms fästning) is a historic fortification on an island in the Stockholm archipelago just east of the Swedish village of Vaxholm. In 1970, it was used as a movie location for the pirate stronghold in Pippi in the South Seas. A scenic view of the castle may be seen from the car ferry which plies the short distance between Vaxholm and the island Rindö.

  • a must stay at...very beautiful and serene but please check the weather before your decide to check in here you need the dry weather to really enjoy this place.

  • Great place for a short excursion while visiting Stockholm. The activities offered where really nice for a family outing or a team building event. There's also a restaurant with excellent food.

  • A true keep, well preserved as it looks like it can withstand several more centuries! Several guns and heavy artillery pieces lay around, well restored too. Access is easy enough with a 2 minutes ferry from the mainland. A highly recommended attraction.

  • Great place to visit! Nice hotel and museum. Recommend a visit. You can walk around freely in most areas. No admittance to the area itself. Easily accessible with cable ferry and boat.

  • A great castle we saw during our boat tour from Stockholm. It is absolutely worth to see!
