Basilica Of St. Mary Of Health - Review
They decided to build this Baroque church when the prayers against’ the plague were apparently heard and delivered. It took nearly half a century to build, but at the end of it, they had one of the largest churches in the city, and is considered a minor-basilica. Highlights include:
- Marian symbolism
- Baroque high altar
- Tintoretto’s Marriage at Cana
- A number of great works by Titian, including altarpiece and ceiling paintings.
- The statues of the four evangelists on the façade.
The church plays a prominent role in the Festa della Madonna della Salute (annual Feast of the Presentation of the Virgin on 22nd November). It’s also played an important role in the minds of the painters who painted the Venice skyline. It’s elegance leads to being often being preferred to any other church as Venice’s most beautiful.

Basilica Of St. Mary Of Health, Venice Reviews
Nice original architecture. Short visit, free admission. Yep, free. When I visited, someone was playing the organ live. Easy to find, just off the boat stop of the same name. You can make it a stop before or after St-Mark's Place.
Free to go into, but actually not terribly interesting for most tourists on th inside. Those expecting a second St. Mark's will be disappointed. Those with a little historical knowledge or art history background can appreciate it a bit more. Also if you stop by around 4ish they sometimes have organ/choir practice in the afternoon.
Amazing Basilica. I decided to make my way over from San Marco after a week of looking at it form afar. I was not disappointed. This is a must see place in Venice.
Beautiful looking church. Great place to sit and relax and great views over looking the start of the Grand Canal and San Marco area 😀
Beautiful church with the base in the form of an octagon. This church catches the eye from the main Venice island and is reachable either by ferry or by a bridge a little away from the St. Mark's square. Pretty good from the inside as well. The location is very nice...right at the tip of the small triangular island.
