The largest of Venice’s six sestieri has been settled since at least the 8th century AD. It became really important 13th century onwards, when it became home to Venice’s Arsenale, then-Europe’s largest naval complex. It’s a curious mix of the really touristy historical area, and the more civil residential areas, making it the most populated and busy sestiery. Attractions wise its main highlights are:
