The bridges of Venice are beautiful and this one is obvious evidence for the fact. The structure you see today was built in 1847, replacing the stone bridge that had, up till then, been the oldest in Venice. It’s a popular place from where to catch views of the Bridge of Sighs. Look to the other side for nice views of the San Marco Basin. On the side of the bridge is a bas-relief of 'Madonna of the Gondoliers'. The best time to visit the bridge is early in the morning, to avoid the crowds, or during sunset, when it’s the most beautiful spot in Venice.

Trivia: Casanova’s diaries mention the bridge as a place he met a woman whose life he’d once saved.
