Castello Doria - Review

Whenever one thinks of Cinque Terra, the very first image that comes to mind is of a castle perched on a hill that overlooks gorgeous sea. This experience can come true if you visit Castello Doria, a castle located high on the southern end of the harbour. This is the oldest (atleast 1000 years old) surviving fort that still graces the landscape of Cinque Terra. Although in ruins today, this castle offers you a glimpse into the royal past of the influential Doria family of Genoa who constructed this castle to protect the village from pirates. From here, you can enjoy some magnificent views of the galloping waves of sea.

  • Enchanting site... a "must"! Absolutely to see. very impressive Castle with amazing 360 ° views on "Gulf of Poets". Higly recommended by seaandcountryvillas

  • A true highlight for us in Vernazza! Clinging to the rocks, Doria Castle is a medieval defensive structure with a cylindrical tower. The Belforte bastion is just below it.

  • It's really cheap and you get a great view of the town.

  • One of the coolest most peculiar spots on earth. Breathtaking view.

  • From the castle you can get view around of Vernazza port. It cost 1.5€/person. The tower is closed and the castle area close at 9 pm.
