This is a medieval church with the Valmarana Chapel that was also built by the famous Andrea Palladio. The part that makes this church even more special is that Palladio himself is buried in here. Apart from the many beautiful frescoes, the altar that shows the Baptism of Christ is the most attractive.

The Valmarana Chapel is gold coated and absolutely mind blowing. It was in the 16th century when Antonio Valmarana expired, Palladio designed this chapel that has gained so much fame. Later the family of Valmarana were also buried here.

  • Vicenza's major shrine was built in 1260 to lodge a thorn off Christ's crown, hence the name. You can easily spend an hour to tour this temple,so many masterpieces are on display. Worst mistake you can make is to rush through the altars and chapels.

  • Perhaps the most important and impressive church in terms of architectural and art historical value in Vicenza.

  • Really lovely. Cannot say that I would have paid to enter...good thing that Vicenza had a special priced ticket that included this church (per town's special Van Gogh exhibit elsewhere).

  • Its a museum entrance is 3€

  • Wow.... such age and beauty
