The Gates of Violence Monument is the symbol of dark history of Austria. Located on Albertinaplatz, this memorial contests the very ideas of Fascism and War because of which Austria has to terribly suffer under the Nazi rule during 1938-1945. As you look at this memorial, it is divided into 4 parts, there are gates of a concentration camp, montage of wartime images, WWI gas marks,a dying woman birthing a future soldier-images that portray the gruesome past and horrors associated with it. The most powerful image is that of a Jew who is forced to scrub anti-Nazi graffiti off a street with a toothbrush. While you are in Vienna, do have a look at this sensitive depiction of the horrid history of Nazism in Austria.
