Surreally perfect columnar basalts meeting the gorgeous Black sand is quite a sight on its own and along with the view of the Atlantic Ocean, the Reynisfjara Beach offers an experience of a lifetime! The beach was listed in 1991 in the ‘Top 10 non-tropical beaches to visit on the planet’ by National Geography.
Legends say that two trolls crashed a three master ship onto the land here and with the first ray of the sun at dawn, they were frozen into the current stacks seen near the beach.
The frothy white waves juxtapose beautiful with the pitch black sand and offers one of the most beautiful ‘other-worldly’ sights for visitors. The beach is perfect for photography and even though it can get quiet windy, you will love just how untouched, raw and unique it is. To make the most of your visit, plan a whole afternoon here with a hearty picnic basket. A hike around will give you some fabulous panoramic views of the beach and the ocean adorned by the abstract rock formation.
