The Vik church dates back to 1873 and is located on a hill in Vik and is the only place that survived the 1918 flood. Even today, the locals practise drills to rush to the church in case of another eruption.
The simple yet elegant architecture of the church gives it a rather old-world charm. The structure is built completely out of wood and was rebuilt in 1913-14 after a lightening struck the church and the powerful winds blew the windows and door out. The minimal interiors of the church play the perfect coy to pull visitors to the views that surround it. The luscious view of the Black sand beach especially on a windy day when the water creates a foggy mist near the cliff, is second to none in the world.
Come to the church to see the view of the Vik village from the hill along with the majestic hills that surround it. At night, you can also see the spellbinding Auroras in the backdrop– something that no one must miss out on! Don’t forget to carry your camera when you visit the place.
