The Old Jewish Cemetery of Vilnius is the place where you will find the famous grave of Vilna Gaon, who was a Talmudist, halakhist, kabbalist, and the foremost leader of mitnagdic (non-hasidic) Jewry. The Jewish cemeteries in Lithuania were destroyed by the Soviet regime, however, this cemetery was re-established after the fall of the former empire. Today, every Sunday, a lot of visitors come here to see the graves of their beloved, ancestors and members of Jewish community. Of all the graves, Vilna Gaon’s grave is the most visited and revered.
