Wrv Surf Camp And Lessons Reviews & Ratings
Set up surfing lessons with WRV and they lived up to their reputation! I called this morning left a message and they got back to me in an hour, hooked me up with the instructor who called and texted me all the details, paid online, and had a blast with my family. I can’t say enough about how great Holmes was as an instructor and ambassador for WRV and the Virginia Beach area. Super friendly, positive, and safety conscious. I highly recommend them because Holmes made sure that we had fun and actually surfed!
I took a 2 hour surf lesson with Holmes Clark on Friday, July 19th. Holmes is an expert instructor. He is knowledgeable, patient, personable, and provides immediate feedback. He began the session with some essential fundamentals on the beach which set a firm foundation for the instruction that occurred in the water. Once in the water, Holmes provided feedback with each iteration and with his timely coaching I was able to stand up in no time. Holmes is highly recommended! He is one of the best!
We received instruction from Holmes in the form of a private lesson and it was absolutely amazing! This guy knows his stuff! He was very encouraging and made it easy to learn. I coach gymnastics and he was able to relate surfing to gymnastics in a way that made it so much easier for me to understand. Thanks again, looking forward to our next lesson!
My 4 children and I had an amazing 2 hour private surfing lesson with Holmes Clark and Vinny on our first day at the beach. The second day, my 3 oldest kids and I had a second, amazing 2 hour private lesson with Holmes. For a third day, 2 of my kids continued their surfing knowledge with an amazing 2 hour private lesson from Craig Dean and John (I don't know his last name). Holmes started our first lesson in the sand, by teaching us how to do Pop Ups on the surf board. He also taught us where to place our feet once we Popped Up, and where to have our feet when we were laying on the board paddling. We then moved into the water. Holmes and Vinny picked the waves for us to ride and told us when to Pop Up on the board. Holmes watched us and gave good corrections while we were surfing, then he explained more when we returned to him to ride the next wave. Later in the lessons, Holmes taught us how to pick good waves to ride and how to move our bodies to control the surf board. After the second day of lessons, Holmes allowed us to use the extra surf boards for many hours of extra surfing time. When he wasn’t teaching, he would give us good corrections. We surfed for hours that day. It was awesome!!! On the third day, Craig and John were able to build off of the lessons taught by Holmes. Craig and John taught more techniques on how to move the body to control the surf board. Craig spent time explaining where the best point on the wave is to Pop Up and ride. After their 2 hour private lesson, Bud Trent (the Surf camp director) and Craig allowed my kids to use the extra surf boards for additional surfing practice. It was amazing!! I was shocked that in just a short time I, a 47 year old Mom, (who had never surfed before) was RIDING waves to the shore. I felt like I was flying. It was truly breathtaking. I was also shocked as I watched my kids' surfing skills transform. My kids went from falling off their surf boards to being able to Pop Up, then stand in the traditional surfing position (straddled legs while slightly squatting and body turned sideways), and ride the waves to the shore, while having control of their boards. I highly, highly recommend WRV for private surfing lessons. Holmes Clark, Craig Dean, John (I don't know his last name), Bud Trent and all the other surfing instructors know surfing WELL. After talking with these guys, I realized they have a passion for surfing. Bud Trent is a 3rd generation surfer and has personally surfed waves as high as 65 feet. Holmes Clark has many, many years of personal surfing experience and knowledge. The WRV instructors are supportive, friendly, respectful and a tremendous amount of fun to talk to and learn from. These guys will get you Popping Up and riding waves to the shore, no matter how old or young you are.
My 8 year old had a blast today during a 2 hour session with Holmes and the other instructors. Highly recommended for kids interested in getting a taste of what surfing is all about
