Kilauea Visitor Center Reviews & Ratings

  • Wonderful visitor center. We learned a lot about local geology and biology, but didn't get trapped in the building all day looking at exhibits as the format had ample exit space. Restrooms were clean, rangers were friendly and happy to talk about the 2018 eruption. Only note- would have loved more detailed maps of what trails are closed or open. Thanks for the great visit!

  • We enjoyed the walk through the sulfur springs trail to the view of the caldera/rim of the crater. A lot of the facility is still closed due to last year's lava flow but this is still a must visit place. The gift shop is small but staff was super friendly.

  • The rangers are super friendly and helpful! They’ll take the time to explain where you can go based on your abilities and time frame. Center has informative displays and small gift shop. Fill up your water bottle with the rain water they collect from the spigot outside!

  • Incredible views of the Kilauea volcano even after the 2018 eruption. This visitors center has some interactive exhibits that provide information on the current state of the volcanoes, as well as their history and the various flora and fauna that can be found within the park. Great place to hike around in and explore the wildlife.

  • A great place to stop before getting too far into the park. Lots of information and sadly, a lot of up to date information on all of the closed areas (as of September 2019). Currently the Jaggar Museum and Thurston Lava Tube are closed, along with roads and trails that are no longer in use (in part....because the crater swallowed them!). Please stop at the center before going into the park for the most up to date info!
