Visafslag - Review

Sadly, the days that fish was auctioned off here in a spirited round of purchasing in the morning have long passed. The building was built in 1934 and is today regarded as a monument. Its insides are decorated to represent a traditional Volendam room. Sometimes, during school events or cultural activities, the whole fish market vibe is recreated at this house.

Visafslag, Volendam Reviews

  • Nice place to enjoy one afternoon, so long as not during holiday season. The place is very touristy and will be so crowded during summer time or holiday season. One of the main attractions for tourists is the photo studio facilities that rent traditional clothes. Best to come in the afternoon.

  • Beautiful place.. good colony around and scenic view of natural beauty...

  • What's not to love, well preserved old-town by the sea. Especially this area where the piers are cause I love the sea in general. Went there in the autumn so the breeze was hauntingly enchanting. Wish I'd had the time to sit on the benches longer than for some pics.

  • I’m not a fan of bus loads of tourists — you will find quieter and more authentic Dutch experiences, with less souvenir shops, in nearby villages.

  • Volendam is a short distance travel from Amsterdam Centraal (get the Waterland day ticket for unlimited bus ride to Volendam/ Marken and other areas nearby there). Thought this place will be a place to relax but it is not. Suggest you to be here earlier as this area will be flooded with tourist if you reach here in the afternoon. Nothing much to see here too (other than souvenirs, cheese factory, café, restaurant and the seaside view). Not really recommend other than if you have too much free time in Amsterdam and no other places to visit.
