Huhu Cafe, Waitomo Reviews - Write a Review
A nice location with a good view. I enjoyed the food. For me the chips could have been a bit crisper. I also prefer white meat fried chicken. It was good food though and we cleaned our plates.
Awesome food and views! They were also serving hot food later in the afternoon when most of the other nearby cafes had closed their kitchen. The burger tasted fantastic, and the salmon dish had great flavors! The beer and cider on tap were refreshing.
What a cool place! Went for dinner with my husband and friends as we were staying next door at the Top 10 Holiday Park. Excellent service and knowledge wait staff, excellent food and a cosy atmosphere. We had the buttermilk crispy chicken to start which was awesome (and gluten free). My lamb shoulder chop was perfectly cooked and so tasty as was the grilled eggplant, freekah, preserved lemon and yogurt mint sauce. Wish they'd been open for breakfast as we would have gone here again instead of the General Store across the road!!
So we were recommended this place as we were staying across the road at the lovely Waitomo B&B Guest Lodge. The owner couldn't recommend the place enough. We decided to go check it out and wow, were we impressed. Champagne for two (as we were celebrating our new engagement) an entree, two mains and two desserts came to $120. At first that might sound steep, but let me tell you about this establishment. First off, friendly staff were there every step of the way and the food came out lightning fast. The green lipped mussels with bacon and breadcrumbs were incredible. Then came the mains; the gnocchi were little flavor pillows and a generous serve and my chicken, stuffed with cheese, wrapped with bacon and on top of three chive croquettes was incredible. We decided to go for dessert and got the peanut butter parfait and the dark chocolate orange mousse. Wow. This whole adventure was a one way ticket to flavor country and if we were locals we'd be back again in a heartbeat. We will miss you in Australia!
What a gem! Delicious food, lovely coffee and great fast service. I'd highly recommend to anyone in the area!
