We went on an overcast and chilly day certainly affecting our thoughts of the old town. Very walk able with light traffic and buses in the area. Going off the main roads to find something new is always something we like to do, and here you can find some surprises. Please skip the Starbucks and find that home made Polish food!
Has to be the highlight of a trip to Warsaw. I flew in on a Wednesday, so was able to miss the madness of the coach loads of tourists following their guides and colourful umbrella held high that take place every Sat/Sunday. It is hard to believe the extent of rebuilding that has taken following the TOTAL destruction from the German bombing in 1939. Until you see photographs of the rubble that remained and how it looks today, you can't help but be amazed. I am flying back to the UK this evening after a week here and at the moment am sitting in a cafe in the Old Town before heading to the airport.
This is one of the many squares you'll find in Warsaw but what makes this square even more charming is the mermaid statue in the center and the festivals, wedding photos and more that happen at all hours of the night. Definitely visit and check out some of the buildings on the corners for their great architecture, too, but remember, it's all reconstructed.
Nice place to spend an afternoon. Many food options, including some great dumplings and friendly wait staff. Prices are very reasonable. Lots of street performers to enjoy. Also Check out the royal garden which is a little walk from the old town central square.
