Known to be Britain’s oldest show cave, Baron’s cave is a key feature of the Reigate castle. The entrance to the caves is quite steep, but it is an interesting place to visit. Although the purpose of digging the cave is unknown, many suppositions have been put forward. Looking at the size of the cave, it is largely believed that the cave was used as a dungeon. The cave walls are marked with many graffities including names, initials, dates, as well as carvings. Being located under castle grounds, this is a fascinating place to visit. You can tour the caves only on second Saturday of every month. So kindly plan your visit accordingly.
