Lawrence Halprin is the famous architect of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Memorial. The 32nd president of the USA who served four terms in office has been honoured by dividing the place into 4 symbolic rooms. Statues and paintings depicting his life and history as an American President adorn the walls. The exhibits involve several major epochs in history including the Great Depression and of course World War II.
The red stone building is unique due to the fact that it was one of the first places of interest that were made accessible by wheelchair. Given FDR’s personal life, this gesture was quite fitting and necessary. Eleanor Roosevelt’s bronze statue also enhances the place. It is a very popular tourist attraction and the memory of the beloved president still remains fresh here.
- President Roosevelt's First Pet, Fala, is the main presidential pet to be memorialized. The FDR dedication has one statue of the Scottie while an alternate exists in Puerto Rico at the "Paseo de los Presidentes”.

Truly beautiful, contemplative space. All three of FDR's terms are given they're own area to showcase their accomplishments. There are waterfall's statues of FDR and even his little dog Fala. Eleanor Roosevelt has her own section as well. There's a great gift shop on site as well as bathrooms too and plenty of places to sit and enjoy the beautiful site.
A large number of waterfalls! Should be called “wow, is that yet another waterfall?” It was 30 degrees outside. You can’t help but wonder if FDR really liked waterfalls that much
This is an amazing National Park Service Site. Whether visiting the presidential memorial at night or during the day, the beauty and tranquility of this attraction can have a really spiritual effect on visitors. Also, home of my second date with my now wife 12 years ago! Wonderful site. Whether you are local or touring DC, do not miss this one.
In a city of monuments this is my favorite. Sprawling and providing context for his three terms, this monument is a much a testament to the time than it is to the man (and his dog, and Eleanor). Every monument is an art piece onto itself, but this one stands apart in my mind as one of the best.
FDR memorial is a very serene place to seat and enjoy. We had a nice time walking around reading this great president's quotes and overall enjoy this beautiful memorial. Highly recommended.
