Lovely historic site. Beautiful very well kept grounds. The tour guide was nice, had a great voice and super knowledgeable. The inside has some very insightful quotes from Mr. Douglas. Picture worthy in every way. I would recommend going and taking friends / family on a tour. The views from atop the hill are just breath taking.
Not a well known site in the D.C area, run by the National Park Service, thus no admission fees for the tour and parking is also for free. The majority of the artifacts in the house are authentic and are not replicas.Be aware that there are many stairs involved in the tour as his house is two stories and is located on a hill (there is a ramp up the hill). The guide was vary knowledgeable and provided many insight. If your an enthusiast about African american and salivary abolition history, you enjoy this place.
This tour was amazing! The park rangers here are excellent! I even learned a few things about my own family when the rangers discussed the differences between traveling trunks. The rangers were excellent at really showing how significant Frederick Douglass is in American history. This is a must see tour...plus the cost is only $1.50
Frederick Douglass home was such a Fantastic visit. I took my children as sort of a mini field trip to tour the grounds. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and informative about the timeline of Douglass life when his incredible Family lived in the home and on the property. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the home had to offer, it was marvelous to have a window back into time in such an extraordinary way. I recommend all families near and far visit this national treasure!
A not frequently visited gem! Come to learn more about an historic and brave American statesman, ahead of his time, and the people in his life who helped him to freedo, like his wife Annie, and to great influence, including Abe Lincoln. Douglass eventually married a white woman and settled into upper class DC society as he lived and retired here. A great stop while you visit wDC!
