The Martin Luther King Memorial is a giant statue of the brilliant man who has been one of the most influential figures in relation to equality in the United States. The memorial pays tribute to a truly amazing personality. The statue or rather the monument is built on the basis of a small saying in King’s famous “I have a Dream” speech that goes “Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope.” This part has been carved in the stone too. His figure has been carved out of stone making the structure very symbolic.
17 quotes from his various writings and speeches have been put up on the inscription wall. The atmosphere of the place and the memory of this amazing man are both truly inspiring. Do certainly put this one on your must-list.

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Reviews & Ratings
What a great place to visit! Monument is beautifully sculpted and situated at a very nice place. Benches besides water have a nice view to sit down and relax with family. It was a hot summer day when we visited and a gentleman offered us cold water bottles. I am very thankful to the people of United States of America. Very loving, kind and hospitable people. Would definitely visit US again :)
I visited the Dr. Martin Luther King memorial at night - it's incredibly well lit, and I think it was the best way to see it. The monument itself is an interesting concept - from a mountain of despair, a stone of hope. The quote wall was actually my favorite part - very inspiring.
This memorial is one of my favorites. You enter through the Mountain of Despair and are greeted by a Stone of Hope. To either side, perpendicular to the entrance ,are two walls. Each has quotes about rights and freedoms, and also equality. The side of the Stone of Hope that faces the Tidal Basin is a carving of Martin Luther King Jr. And for map geeks like myself, the outline of the memorial from an aerial view is like a peace dove.
The statue of Dr King is an amazingly conceived and executed piece of art that beautifully captures the quote it carries - "Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope." His quotes around the background wall exemplify and capture the deep, thoughtful and intentional nature of a man who was as deeply committed to the love of his country as he was to justice and equality for all - here then is a paragon of civil disobedience, one that many today would do well to learn from and emulate - "only LOVE can drive out HATE"
The Martin Luther King Jr memorial is very touching. Lots of respect for this man. The statue was low key hard to find at first, but if you see a crowd of people on the same location looking at a big rock then you know you are in the right location.
