About Rose's Luxury, Washington D. C.

Rose's Luxury is a restaurant on Barracks Row in Washington, D.C, created by chef-owner Aaron Silverman. In 2014 Bon Appétit rated it as 'the best new restaurant in America'. It is known for not taking reservations which creates long lines, such that a nearby bar's top cocktail is called 'Waiting for Rose’s' and linewaiters are reported to make up to thirty dollars an hour waiting in line. President Barack Obama celebrated his 54th birthday at Rose's, after the First Lady previously ate at the restaurant in February. Chef Aaron Silverman has prior experience at Momofuku (restaurants) and opened a fine dining restaurant next door to Rose's Luxury named Pineapple and Pearls in 2016. Silverman has been the subject of a profile in the Washington Post, which characterized his work as mastery of 'the art of serious play',

  • Do not believe the "first come first served" policy. People show up when they open, put their name down, leave, and come back for their 8 o'clock dinner. Better yet, some people will use Favor to get other people to reserve a table for them. Arrived around 7:30 on a Monday for dinner for 2. They were booked till 10pm even though there were only 2 people waiting for a table. Didn't know how else to inform people of this issue other than to write a review. Management should either A) change up their process or B) accept reservations, because right now it's just a facade. Expected better organization from a Michelin rated restaurant. Gave 4 stars so as not to screw up the restaurant's rating. Hopefully one day I'll actually be able to eat dinner there.

  • Where's their Michelin star!!! Oh. Just been told they have one. Well deserved indeed. How many reasons did we love this place!! The menu was short but just divine. Unusual combinations that work so very well. The staff warm and charming. Fine dining at fantastic prices with perfect sized portion. Could not recommend more highly. Arrive early ( I mean 5.30pm early!) for a table in an hour or two but it's more than worth it. Way more.

  • They make sure everything is right for you. Staff were very warm, energetic and friendly, and you could tell they cared a lot about doing a great job. The menu was small, and surprisingly vegetarian-oriented. I wish there were more dishes that focus on meat instead. There was only one meat dish (and it's a small plate) on the entire menu! The grilled whole fish was at first a bit under-cooked, but they got it fully fixed with a small bonus for us the second time, and the fish was spicy and flavorful. Will I come back to eat again? Absolutely. Will I wait 1.5 hour again for a table? Not sure. Is this Michelin 1 Star? Marginally in my opinion. But overall it's a great restaurant especially considering the price they charge. The no-reservation policy is strange. So the restaurant would rather lose part of the revenue to people hired to wait in line and Task Rabbit? It doesn't really achieve the purpose of making it accessible to every one as intended, since many people hire others to wait in line for them.

  • What can I say, Dinner was pretty damn good. We did the set menu rooftop dining experience. 4 courses with numerous small bites and sharing dishes (more food than you can imagine). Highlights were the service, carrot pastrami, and the dinner course of Brisket, southern beans, vegetables and fried chicken. Dessert was exceptional as well. Only non-stellar dish were the pastas which were cooked perfectly but one was a bit of a butter-bomb (not the worst problem to have.) Exceeds the hype which is a pretty crazy to say. Price was right for the rooftop meal as well as it included wine pairings.

  • Extremely overrated. Not worth the wait, not worth the price. - I would not expect to be hungry after the tasting menu. - I do expect the dishes to be palatable. At least three in our party described the brisket as inedible due to the amount of salt. - I do expect our table to be ready promptly at the time of our reservation. - The service was good, but not outstanding. - Worst of all: they served tofu.
