Thomas Jefferson Memorial Reviews & Ratings
Quiet and peaceful location, meditative even. Beautiful pantheon architecture and exquisite acoustics. However the quotes were bleeding green paint onto the walls, and the statue has cobwebs all over his face. Wish it was better taken care of, that said, the roof is undergoing some improvements and repair. As of the posting of this review (mid October), the building is almost completely enveloped by scaffolding.
The next part of our journey was the incredible monument honoring our 3rd President, Thomas Jefferson. It is beyond words, especially with the view of the waterfront. The steps that lead up to our once great leader are only the beginning of the great journey touring this monument. Obviously it's enormous size reflects such a leader was. The statue of him is even more breathtaking. However, the most important aspect of this monument are the words that lie written on the walls. We might all take pictures of them and read them to our children and remember them ourselves for it is what this country stands for in more ways than one. It's just a beautiful place especially when it's quiet. From the lawn, to the concrete, to the marble, to the river, to the steps, to the statue, to the height, to its illumination at night and the grander of the day light, the Jefferson Memorial speaks volumes far beyond the words written on the walls on our country's behalf. Go see this... it is moving to the mind.
Beautiful and peaceful place. It felt good to just sit on the steps under the clear skies on a bright day. The views across the basin are nice all around. We walked across all the memorials around the National Mall and it was an amazing experience.
I really love the Jefferson Memorial, it's a very nice memorial that has a great view and it's off the beaten path so it doesn't get the huge crowds that the Lincoln gets. Great place to sit and chill. This is also a great place to visit at night, it's well lit and normally safe (I have been here many times at night and have never felt unsafe)
In mid 2019 there is a fair amount of construction scaffolding around the monument, particularly above the domed ceiling. I don't think it distracted from the experience though. From the Jefferson Memorial you can walk around the tidal basin to visit the lower profile but equally moving Franklin D. Roosevelt and Martin Luther King memorials.
