Corinthian columns and the low dome cover the statue of Thomas Jefferson at the Jefferson Memorial. It holds a 19-feet statue of Thomas Jefferson. Extracts from the Declaration of Independence written by him have been displayed in the southwest inner part divider. Thomas Jefferson is perhaps one of the most important figures in American history.
It is estimated that around 2 million people visit this wonderful memorial and walk up the impressive marble steps every single year. The place is quite beautiful in the day but it looks stunning when lit up at night so do try to visit in the evening to enjoy both these facets of it.

This monument is absolutely beautiful inside, outside, and in the entire surrounding areas. A perfect place to rest or hang out. It is out of the way from the other mall monuments so if you are walking and trying to look at a bunch of stuff on vacation in a short time, this one might be hard to fit in. But, if you have the time or are riding bikes I recommend fitting it in. The ultimate trip is a kayak trip through the waterfront between the monuments and get the best views avoiding the crowds.
This is my favorite monument in DC. A lot of reviewers said the sunset is spectacular and they are not wrong. It is very relaxing to sit on the steps and watch the sunset. If you are in DC, I highly recommend you stroll by this area.
It's kind of weird reviewing a memorial, but whatever. It's a pretty spot and there's a great view from outside. The exterior of the memorial is a lot nicer than the interior, which is fairly boring to be honest. It's just a statue of Jefferson with a few of his quotes etched into the walls. It's worth going just to see the outside.
This was absolutely one of the high points of my 2011 DC-trip. God, it was about 8PM and somewhat really crowded considering it was nighttime though, the view was just marvelous. Can't wait to go there again someday.
My favorite monument! Kinda isolated from the other monuments (across the pond). However with its isolation, it provides another form of tranquility. Especially beautiful during the cherry blossom festival. A must see then.
