Corinthian columns and the low dome cover the statue of Thomas Jefferson at the Jefferson Memorial. It holds a 19-feet statue of Thomas Jefferson. Extracts from the Declaration of Independence written by him have been displayed in the southwest inner part divider. Thomas Jefferson is perhaps one of the most important figures in American history.

With a fitting tribute to one of the country's greatest founding fathers, this is a wonderful stretch in the heart of Washington's tidal basin. Monument history area downstairs was quite fascinating. Peaceful and serene atmosphere while smaller crowds observe with beautiful and scenic views. Bathrooms stand at this memorial that is extremely convenient. Less to see compared to other surrounding buildings but definitely worth the extra mile as this will always be a meaningful memorial.
For sure a romantic date idea when the cherry blossoms are in season. My girlfriend and I took some great photos facing the river, with the Washington Monument in the background. There's a small, free museum and gift shop underneath. My favorite were the pencil sharpeners in the shape of the "needle" or "pencil" Plenty of paid, off-street parking.
A monument to a president who we can look back on as being somewhat controversial. It touches on, and invited you to reflect on, the controversy of a president who advocated freedom but owned and raped slaves. It gives you a good view of the river. It's a lot less crowded than the other monuments in the area, which is a nice change of pace.
Well maintained memorial for an early president. My issues with Jefferson aside, his essence was struggling for equality, albeit only for White Americans. Today we have managed to make strides towards true equality for everyone. Jefferson's words as displayed, finally hold true. Docked a star for failure of Parks services to ensure appropriate conduct of visitors.
This monument is absolutely beautiful inside, outside, and in the entire surrounding areas. A perfect place to rest or hang out. It is out of the way from the other mall monuments so if you are walking and trying to look at a bunch of stuff on vacation in a short time, this one might be hard to fit in. But, if you have the time or are riding bikes I recommend fitting it in. The ultimate trip is a kayak trip through the waterfront between the monuments and get the best views avoiding the crowds.
