Love this space
I've added some black and white photos that I took back in 1968. The property was sold to the state in 1985. We had a great time and did the belly crawl trough a very tight squeeze and made it to the second exit. It looks like the cave is currently closed to the public.
The cave is closed, but for good reason. It closed the cave to protect the endangered bat species that reside there, until they can solve the issue of a disease spreading from other states that is transmitted by people. YAY for IL in caring about this.
I stepped into the icy infiltration that was the inner chambers of the cave, I felt the blood rush up to my head and fall out of my mouth. God was with me, my soul was soaring through through the air like a grand eagle. Suddenly, a cave spider emerged from the rocky crags and profoundly whispered to me "four score and seven years ago.." That's when I knew, it was the reincarnation of President Alexander Hamilton. And in that moment, my life flashed before my eyes and glitter swarmed all around me. Engulfed in the shimmering wonder, I watched as my trembling legs meshed together and became a bright and glamorous tail. The metamorphosis was not only a physical transformation, but a spiritual journey. I am now a proud and devout follower of Scientology, the Jewish kind. The only negative effect is that I acquired a speech impediment and can no longer pronounce the letter "n". May Jubileus the creator grace you! Christmas tidings...kiddos........;)
The biggest issue with the cave being closed is there is no reason for it. It was proven a couple of years ago that human contact has nothing to do the bat issue. There is tons of data that can be looked up to back this. There is zero data that says humans are even 1% of the issue. In the beginning of this issue they said it was a possibility humans were the cause. They were wrong, but the idea was worth exploring at the time I guess. What is ashame is these damn DNR's refuse to reverse there ideas even when wrong.
