Edakkal Caves , Wayanad Reviews
The caves date back to 3000 years. There are 2 caves and the inscriptions are on the upper cave. You have to trek around 3 kilometers to reach the place. Do visit this place if you are an history enthusiast. You also get a panoramic view from the top. There are ample food stalls for refreshments.
Very interesting place to visit, however the walking distance from car parking to ticket counter was really like trekking, so much slope to walk, this is part -I. From ticket counter to Edakkal cave is really amazing stepping experience, especially youngsters will enjoy it. Avoid aged people who unable to walk long distances. Seeing tribal languages carved on the cave stones for their way of communicating 6000 years ago. I enjoyed Edakkal trip.
It's a long walk from the car parking lot to the ticket counter. Gradual slope leads you to the ticket counter and then the steep climb to the caves. The lower cave is small and it is the upper cave which is important. It is actually not a cave but a rock which has rolled down on an opening giving the cave like formation. 6000 year old pictorial writings are on the cave wall which is believed to be the second oldest in the world after the one in France. A must visit.
An interesting place to visit in Kerala. Well maintained, natural beauty. The cleanliness is worth following. About a mile of walking from the car parking along a terrain route to reach the cave. Not suggested for elderly people who have heart trouble. However, the natural beauty of the place is awesome. The artwork of ancient tribal era inside the cave is an additional achievement. A place worth visit.
Well managed place of historic and archeological importance. You have to walk about 2 km along a steep road from the parking lot to reach the ticket counter. Ticket rates are nominal. Then from there you have to climb hundreds of steps and stairways to reach the cave. There is a tourism information staff to brief you about the place and he will explain the carvings and drawings in the cave. The place was the resting place for hunters approximately 5000 BC. Drawings in the cave are estimated to be of different periods. The local shops sell a number of organic and indigenous products. The place is kept clean. But the shops and premised need some beautification need to be maintained litter-free
