Bauhaus-Universitat is a local university that specializes in the fields of technical studies and artistic fields. It was founded in 1860 under the name of Great Ducal Saxon Art School. In 1919, it was renamed the Bauhaus and in 1996 it gained its present name. The university is ranked among the four top universities in the state, with around 4,000 students. In 2010, it celebrated its 150th anniversary as an art college.
