Located on the edge of woodland, the charming Ettersburg Castle has stood through three centuries. The castle has been an important part of Weimar’s golden age and was the summer home of the great Duchess Anna Amalia for 12 years where literature and music was often discussed.
The most beautiful features of the castle grounds are the six hectare landscaped park on the west of the estate and the lovely forest house meadow on the east of the estate. The surrounding woodland has been the hunting ground for the Dukes since the 17th century.
The castle has been home to various faces such as the Duke Wilhelm Ernst, his nephew Ernst August, Duchess Anna Amalia, her great grandson Carl Alexander to name a few. It has retained the aura of classicism over the years. The parks were neglected for a long time but today the lush green gardens bloom with gorgeous flowers and shrubberies. The Ettersburg Castle and Park are part of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.
