The Cable Car Museum of Wellington is an award winning museum and it brings to life the story of Wellington's iconic cable cars. It is situated within the original Winding House. Brief information about Winding House- it was built in 1902 to house the winding gear which pulled Wellington's first cable cars from the city centre up to the suburb of Kelburn. It has been given Category 2 Heritage Status by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. The Cable Car Museum is home to two of the original grip cars and the historic winding machinery once used to haul the cars.
