Wellington Cable Car, Wellington Reviews

  • For only $7.50 return this is a cute little outing from the city centre to get a view of the city. We went up in the evening and there were lots of people who had taken picnics up to look out over the city. No sunset from the top as the sun sets behind you. For those keen on a bit of walking, then take the tram up ($4) and then take the defined walk down through the Botanical garden and back to the city.

  • Got the cable car down after a days walking and was very surprised how nice it was. The views are incredible and the ride is quick and smooth. The lights in the tunnel add a bit of excitement to the whole experience. All in all great. 4 stars as (it was 10pm after a long day) but the staff were a bit brash and grumpy. Other than that. Great experience

  • We took the cable car up and wasn't really expecting much as most trams and funiculars in Europe are pretty straightforward, simply put, rather plain. But being Wellington and having that artsy flair, the tram also exhibited some of that artistic side with the murals and the lights through the tunnels. Though it's smaller than most, it is kept in pretty tip top shape, and the ride was smooth and students get a discounted ticket, and multiple ride passes can also be availed.

  • One of the most famous and must do tourist activity is taking a ride on Wellington cable car. The car still maintenance the old cable car experience and makes it fun for adults and kids equally. They operate 7 days a week and you can book the tickets online or purchase at the counter. Once you take a Train to top it has beautiful view and it takes close to Space observatory and access to Wellington botanical garden.

  • More fun than we expected because of the other reviews. Yes it's a short ride only, but it's fun! Certainly with younger kids. On top you can choose a variety of walks trough the botanic gardens which are worth the visit. There is also a really nice playground if you just want to go with kids.
