Wellington Cable Car - Review
The Wellington Cable Car is one of Wellington’s iconic tourist attractions. It completed 110 years of service in the year 2012. The cable car connects downtown Wellington (Lambton Quay) to the suburb of Kelburn. Popular with locals as well as tourists, the cable car departs every 10 minutes and along the way, one travels under the corporate towers of The Terrace, past Kelburn Park and Victoria University of Wellington. Once at the top, do check out the Wellington Botanic Garden, the Carter Observatory and the Cable Car Museum. Many people travel up by cable car and then leisurely stroll back down to the city centre.

Wellington Cable Car, Wellington Reviews
Took the iconic cable car ride up to the Wellington Botanical Garden. The journey itself is under 10 minutes one way but it is a great experience. At the base, the ticket counter is located in Lambton Quay and there is a waiting area with seats for passengers looking to board the next cable car. An adult return ticket costs $7.50. The cable car is bright red and is well maintained. The scenery is better when seated on the left side of the cable car in the upward journey. The lights in the tunnel made the journey even more spectacular. Once at the top, there is a point which is a favorite among photographers, where the view is of the mountains, sea and the cricket field in the background, and the cable car in the foreground. When in Wellington, this tourist attraction is one that must be experienced!
Beautiful trip up to the Botanic Gardens with colourful tunnels that delighted my young'ens. Went up at about 3pm and had a great view of the city. We stayed till about 6pm and got to see the skyline at night too which was lovely, although it was raining. The museum at the top of the hill was very informative and had nice little souvenirs Michael Singapore, May 2018
The Wellington Cable Car is a classic and iconic attraction; the first time I visited I was a kid, and now just over a decade later I made my second visit. The ride is less than about 8 minutes to get to the top, where there are viewing binoculars ($2 each - a little annoying), a lookout over the city, and a museum/gift shop nearby. The botanical gardens are at the top, and not too far away is the observatory - the cable car is a must do for the family!
This is a wonderful Wellington experience. Take the Cable car up from Lambton Quay. April 2018 it's $7.50 cash per adult, maybe cheaper if you have a Snapper card. If you have the Wellington Entertainment book you can purchase two adult tickets for the price of one. Lovely trip down memory lane for the oldies coupled with excitement for the kids. Wonderful views from the top. Go to the planetarium afterwards or take a picnic up to eat in the botanic gardens. There's a kid's playground halfway down the Botanical Gardens hill to the left of the Planetarium Observatory.
This Iconic Feature is a favorite for both tourists and Wellingtonians. The cable car provides an exciting weekend activity and a great way to see all of Wellington. The cable car is an important part of wellingtons history and takes people from the busy Lambton Quay all the way to the scenic, beautiful botanic gardens. This iconic place is defiantly a must do!
