Irish Agricultural Museum And Johnstown Castle Gardens - Review

Take a glimpse into the life of an Irish farmer at this informative and entertaining museum and gardens. A great way to spend time with family and friends, there is a lot to do at this place. You can browse through the collection of well restored agricultural equipments and engines. Experience how a blacksmith, wheelwright and cooper used to function back in the old days with the help of workshops and displays. There is also an exhibition that showcases the devastating effects of ‘The Great Famine’. Of course, there is also a lot of information about the Johnston Castle and estate. All the displays from Irish country furniture to farmhouse kitchens makes you feel like you have entered a traditional Irish home from decades ago. The gardens by themselves are absolutely splendid for a picnic and wandering. There are gushing waterfalls, statues and over 200 varieties of trees to keep you company.

Irish Agricultural Museum And Johnstown Castle Gardens, Wexford Reviews

  • One of the most beautiful places in Wexford to walk in summer sun or to take in autumn the autumn colours. We'll manicured gardens with ample routes through the grounds. Seating is spread throughout the gardens and there are picnic tables on site too. Very good value for money and recommended for families and dog friendly (dogs must be on leads).

  • I wish i had more time to acknowledge the times that have gone by. Great display of machienery in the museum which they tied to the local community. Famine times explained very well. I was surprised by the garden or estate, really beautiful. I didn't eat anything but the scones traditional apple pie and crumble looked lovely.

  • I love this place it's so well laid out. its very informative and there are some beautiful examples of letters written home from lands far and wide in famine times. There is a lovely example of a home from times past that reminds me of my grandmother's.

  • This place was incredible. It was like being in a small Viking settlement. Our guide, Derek was brilliant - knowledgeable, funny and engaging. We paid for the Viking experience which was worth every cent.

  • Great place to wander around on a wet day, so much to see, the farmhouse furniture section is great, fascinating stuff, lots of memories for anyone who grew up in rural Ireland! The famine exhibition is very good, very educational
