Rainbow Mountain, just west of Whistler, is an excellent year round destination for hiking in summers and skiing in winters. Access is usually up the 21 Mile Creek, which provides drinking water to the village of Whistler.

Situated at the summit of the Rainbow Mountain is the hidden gem of Rainbow Lake. This is by far one of the most rewarding hikes in Whistler. It's an all day hike - if you're doing it mid-summer you'll have plenty of daylight to work with.

The peak is best reached from the west even though there are a variety of routes from this side and all are as exciting. Although it is a consistently uphill trail, there are several water (bridge) crossings and waterfalls on the way to the picture-perfect lake.

• The hike is not recommended in winters.
• If you want to camp, there are facilities available at the Madeley Lake, Hanging Lake and Beverley Lake.
