Located next to the Kansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial, the Kansas firefighting museum is accommodated in a fire house that dates back to the early 20th century. Fun fact- this was also the last fire station to switch from horse drawn vehicles to motor vehicles in 1918. The museum was closed down in 1953 and today has a collection of uniforms, helmets, wooden water mains, nozzles, alarms, extinguishers, fire manuals, authentic batches, ladders, vintage pumping and riding wagons, beds used by the firemen, leather buckets and old photographs.
The old fire trucks and horse-drawn wagons along with a 19th century fire extinguisher wagon, a Howe hand pumper fire wagon that dates back to 1880 and a steam powered pumper, are a rare find even for people who have seen historic equipment and cars before. A visit here is pretty cool since you get to see the old cars in an almost mint condition. The engine house no 6 is where the fire-fighters would sleep and it also has the original brass fire pole. The memorial depicts a firefighter discovering a helmet amidst a pile of debris and a 50 feet tall flagpole form Engine House no 9 placed nearby. The memorial also has names of the people who lost their lives on the job.
A gift shop is located on the first floor of the museum where you can get an engraved brick, get a picture with the steam pumper and ring the vintage fire-bell. The best part about the museum is that it is maintained in its authentic space since half of the charm of the place is the building itself.

Kansas Firefighters Museum Reviews & Ratings
What a fabulous place!! We went on a 10 day road trip and visited a couple of places in each city and this one still stands out as a winner. In fact, I smile every time I think about it. The stories the retired firefighters told were terrific. Definitely ask about the history of the Dalmatians. I'd like to go back, pull up a chair, get a cup of coffee and listen to those fellows talk. Stop here, stay awhile. You won't regret it!
This is a small but really neat museum. The volunteers are so nice! We had my son’s 3rd birthday party there and the kids had a great time.
Free WiFi when the firefighters aren't being aholes and also plenty of vagabonds to cover up my dogs foul odor. I hear the women's restroom is the best hard smoking venue on this side of the Mississippi!
Neat. Historic. Quick and easy.
The tour guides were fantastic, especially interacting with kids. So much cool history in station.
