Tavern In Old Salem, Nc Reviews & Ratings
Food and service were great! Just moved to the area and went the other weekend and had the beef tip special that was really good but I could have eaten more of it. We had Micheal as our waiter and he was very attentive. Pretty touristy spot but there was plenty of parking in the back.
I was pretty impressed. It's a neat old building very in keeping with the nature of the rest of old Salem. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced, especially considering that they don't have competition nearby. I would definitely consider eating here again, even if I wasn't there for the purpose of experiencing old Salem.
Old food, hard sweet potato fries, slow service. Manager steppped toward me in an aggressive manner after i complained about 75 cents off of a 10.25 meal for 2 orders of bad hard sweet potato fries! I almost had to call the police. He did not allow us to pay and said we e wanted free food in the first place! Second visit horrible and i will never go back. Throw the whole place away!
The atmosphere takes you back in time, and the food is locally sourced from farms in the surrounding counties. The restaurant changes up period cocktail specials frequently, so it's nice to try out items that were in your great-great grandma's recipe book. Great place to stop for lunch while visiting Old Salem. Staff is friendly and efficient. The salads and desserts are delicious.
Appetizer salads were great and big enough to share. Crawfish and grits was very good. Waitress warned that trout can be fishy tasting and it was. Sent back and quickly replaced with a steak that was not medium rare and thus a bit tough. Making a second complaint never feels easy and waiting for another meal would take forever. Oh well.
